Main source(s): PN-III-P1-1-TE-2016-0669, within PNCDI III Background Left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC) is associated with an increased risk heart failure (HF). The presence a real LVNC HF preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), still controverted. Methods We evaluated prospectively 42 patients HFpEF, 21 (61 ± 9 years) and without (LVC), aged factor matched, by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) 1.5T. diagnosis was confirmed Petersen Jacquier criteria (NC/C ratio the percentage NC myocardium). performed myocardial T1 mapping (normal value 950 21ms). calculated mean all native (T1mean), also for apical (apicalT1) basal segments (basalT1). ECV mean, apical. All had NTproBNP biomarkers systemic inflammation (hsCRP, IL6, cystatin C sST2), endothelial dysfunction: VCAM, von Willebrand (vWf), vWF metalloproteinase-ADAMTS13, fibrosis: vascular peroxidase (VPO), Galectin-3. Results In LVNC, NC/C 2.9 0.5 mm myocardium 24.41 8.8%. significantly higher T1apical, ECVmean, (Table) comparison LVC group, suggesting extensive fibrosis in group fibrosis. Inflammatory markers were similar between groups, lower values ADAMTS13, dysfunction, Galectin-3, (Table). Galectin-3 correlated positively only apicalT1 (R = 0.49, p 0.04). VPO, promotor (r 0.61, 0.009) whereas 0.62, 0003) VCAM 0.4, 0.05). Native cut off >1021 ms provided highest sensibility specificity to differentiate HFpEF (p 0.002) (Figure). Conclusion have significant NTproBNP, than more non-compacted segments. level correlates on CMR, expressed time. Moreover, dysfunction seems play important role generation LVNC. findings suggests that stand alone condition, not adaptive hyper-trabeculation HFpEF. Cardiac steatosis and left ventricular remodeling in heart failure with reduced and preserved ejection fraction

Methods 25 HFrEF due to dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM), 18 HFpEF (defined by EF >50%, abnormal diastolic function, maximum oxygen consumption <80% predicted for age, height and gender, with a cardiac limitation in exercise) and 28 normal volunteers were prospectively recruited. All subjects underwent cardiovascular magnetic (MR) resonance at 3T for the determination of left ventricular (LV) volum...

The Correlation between Left and Right Ventricular Ejection Fractions in Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease, Documented by Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Imaging

Introduction: The correlation between right and left ventricular ejection fractions (RVEF and LVEF, respectively) has been studied in only a small number of patients with a marked decrease in RVEF and LVEF. The aim of the present study was to compare LVEF and RVEF in patients with ischemic heart disease. RVEF and LVEF were measured by Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) imaging. Materials a...

Heart Failure with Preserved Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction

BACKGROUND The prevalence and clinical outcomes of heart failure with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction after acute myocardial infarction have not been well elucidated. OBJECTIVE To analyze the prevalence of heart failure with preserved left ventricular ejection fraction in acute myocardial infarction and its association with mortality. METHODS Patients with acute myocardial infa...

Comprehensive Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Assessment in Patients With Sarcoidosis and Preserved Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction.

BACKGROUND Cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) may manifest as arrhythmia or even sudden cardiac death. Because patients with CS often present with nonspecific symptoms, normal electrocardiography, and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction, a reliable diagnostic tool for the work-up of CS is needed. Late gadolinium enhancement-cardiovascular magnetic resonance has proven diagnostic value in CS but ...
